Thoughts 7.28.21
In this moment I am thinking about how good life is. If you are reading this, there is breath in your lungs, there is a beat in your heart, there is a thought in your mind. You are a living, active miracle. There is the eternal encompassed inside your finite being. You are that eternal spark contained in a temporal moment. That’s the beauty of life in my opinion. You will die. I will die. Everyone we know… now or soon or much later will die. But the spark. The God given, life giving, eternal inspiring essence in you and in me is this contradiction of now and forever. My challenge to you and my challenge to me is this: live a life in the perspective of the eternal. There is a phrase in philosophy that says “sub specie aeternitatis” which translates roughly into “from the perspective of the eternal”… I love this because in the context it was originally written it proposes the incomplete idea that nothing matters in the idea of eternity. But my rebuttal says the opposite: in light of forever, how are you going to spend your now. How are your going to say something along the lines of “I am here. There is power in who I am, and purpose in who I was created to be.” How will you use the days, the moments you have been given? My prayer is this: live a life for others. Life a life that makes your world, the world you have impact on, better. Do it. Just do it. Life is better when we live in the light of the eternal. Life is given purpose when we embrace the good and catalyze it to be for those who come after us.
